Psychological evaluations for immigration cases in Oregon

Our current immigration system causes families significant distress. I am committed to treating your case with the respect and kindness it deserves.

  • Extreme Hardship Waiver

Applicants may be approved for a waiver if they can demonstrate that leaving the country or moving their family would cause extreme hardship on a spouse or family member who is a U.S. citizen.

  • Cancellation of Removal

Similar to extreme hardship waivers, cancellation cases involve someone that is already in deportation proceedings. The case may be cancelled if applicants can demonstrate that leaving the country or relocating their family would cause an extreme hardship.

  • Asylum

Applicants seeking asylum in the U.S. must demonstrate that they have suffered persecution or are at great risk of future persecution in their country of origin. Persecution is often based on race, culture, political affiliation, religion, sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

  • VAWA

Women, men and people with non-binary gender identies who have been abused by a U.S. citizen while in the U.S. may pursue a path to legal permanent residency under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).

  • U~Visa

A U-Visa grants applicants legal status if they were the victim of a crime while living in the U.S. provided that they agree to cooperate with law enforcement and provide necessary information.

  • T~Visa

A T-Visa provides protection to victims of human trafficking so that they may live and work legally in the U.S.

The Process

  • Consultation: I will consult with you and your lawyer to understand the case and we will schedule our first session
  • Paperwork: Intake documents and consent forms will be signed prior to our first meeting
  • Evaluation: All meetings/interviews occur online over two or three different days (pets and infants welcome). Appointments are typically two hours each and take place on a secure, private platform. I will ask for details about your life experiences and current symptoms as well as complete several assessments with you
  • Report: I will deliver a final, signed copy of the evaluation to you and your attorney within 2-3 weeks of our last meeting

Important Information

  • Fees: Psychological evaluations are $1000. Expedited evaluations are available for an additional $500 and completed within 1 week. Should I need to appear in court as an expert witness, a retainer and court appearance fee of $300/hr applies. I have experience testifying in immigration court
  • Psychological evaluations are important to fully understanding the emotional and cognitive factors that go into a person's need for asylum or protection as an immigrant. According to a study by Atkinson et al. (2021), asylum cases that included a comprehensive evaluation had positive outcomes 74% of the time compared to 42% of cases without one https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1752928X21001578?via%3Dihub
